Procurement Engineer

We recently launched and operated the first American lunar lander mission since the Apollo Program.  Beyond helping lead America back to the Moon, Astrobotic developed and operates reusable vertical takeoff, vertical landing (VTVL) rockets and continues to advance next-generation VTVL capabilities and advanced rocket engines. Established in 2007, Astrobotic is headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, with a propulsion and test campus in Mojave, CA. 

Astrobotic is currently looking for an experienced Procurement Engineer to identify and manage critical suppliers. This position plays a major role in the effective management of source selection, negotiations, and subcontractor relationships. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in negotiations, contribute to cost savings initiatives, and ensure the timely and efficient delivery of goods and services while maintaining the highest standards of quality. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Acquisition of goods and services in support of contract and business-related projects. 
  • Properly flow prime contract requirements to suppliers. 
  • Manage company cost and schedule objectives related to outsourcing. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers. 
  • Recommend sourcing strategies, including analysis of supplier capability, price and cost, and quality, as required. 
  • Generate and distribute Request for Quotes to suppliers that include all pertinent information.  
  • Work closely with suppliers to obtain pricing and lead time information. 
  • Lead obsolescence management efforts for critical components. 
  • Work with Engineering Design Department regarding critical component features to identify suitable alternate parts. 
  • Work with suppliers to develop and obtain test and qualification data of components.  
  • Understand technical challenges and participate in discussions related to them. 
  • Perform source selection based on established best value criteria. 
  • Perform supply chain activities, including supplier qualification, performance oversight, and relationship development. 
  • Conduct negotiations, with management support, to secure favorable terms and conditions, price, and schedule with suppliers. 
  • Ensure continuity with critical suppliers from quoting through order closeout. 
  • Maintain coordination with internal customers to identify supply chain performance risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful company performance. 
  • Provide supply chain procedure recommendations to reduce project risks and increase supplier performance.  
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures related to assignments. 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electromechanical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related engineering discipline.   
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain, including quoting and negotiating for critical suppliers. 
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, and/or aerospace products.  
  • Good organization and record keeping skills. 
  • Familiarity with relevant software and tools, including procurement management and ERP systems. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Proficient Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with FAR and DFAR requirements. 
  • Experience working in aerospace industry or DOD contracting. 
  • Experience with procurement-focused government audits. 
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint and Jira. 

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and the candidates professional experience.  Base salary is just one component of Astrobotic’s competitive total rewards strategy.
