Summer 2024 Internship- FlatSat Systems

Astrobotic’s FlatSat Systems group is seeking a fulltime intern for the summer 2024 term. This temporary position is expected to last 6 months. 

Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s suite of lunar landers delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals. The company is also developing advanced space robotics capabilities such as terrain relative navigation, mobile robotics for lunar surface operations, and reliable computing systems for mission-critical applications. Originally spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, Astrobotic is pioneering affordable planetary access that promises to spark a new era of exploration, science, tourism, resource utilization, and mining. Astrobotic is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and build racks, harnesses, and/or electrical support equipment to assist in the integration of and test on a hardware-in-the-loop platform 
  • Design and build custom PCBs, including circuit design, schematic creation, and PCB layout 
  • Various programming opportunities including basic python scripting, custom driver development, regression test deployment, and embedded software development 
  • Write and execute test procedures for evaluating the capabilities of custom electrical hardware and software 
  • Write documentation (including integration plans, test results, and user’s guides) to plan and describe work 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ability to write and execute integration and test procedures 
  • Python scripting capability 
  • Understanding of basic electrical concepts and experience with electrical assemblies 
  • Ability to thoroughly document software or hardware design 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Experience with C and/or C++ 
  • Experience with circuit design 
  • Experience with PCB layout 
  • Experience with programming systems such as software- or hardware-in-the-loop sims
