Summer 2024 Internship - Mechanical Integration & Test

Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s suite of lunar landers delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals. The company is also developing advanced space robotics capabilities such as terrain relative navigation, mobile robotics for lunar surface operations, and reliable computing systems for mission-critical applications. Originally spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, Astrobotic is pioneering affordable planetary access that promises to spark a new era of exploration, science, tourism, resource utilization, and mining. Astrobotic is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Astrobotic’s Landers & Spacecraft group is seeking a fulltime intern for the Summer 2024 term. This temporary position is expected to last 6 months. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Designing and building assembly and/or test support equipment such as test fixtures, alignment tools and system mock-ups.
  • Writing and executing test procedures for evaluating spacecraft mechanical and electrical components, subsystems, and/or full-scale systems.
  • Working hands-on in fabrication environments and clean rooms to prepare, clean, assemble, and test spacecraft systems.
  • Writing documentation (including integration plans/procedures, test results, and user’s guides) to plan and describe work.

Required skills:

  • Experience with technical writing, documentation, and planning
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and models.
  • Understanding of data acquisition and collection concepts.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and capability of working in a team environment.

Preferred skills:

  • Understanding of basic electrical concepts and experience with electrical assemblies.
  • Technical writing experience such as assembly instructions, test procedures and technical reports and presentations.
  • Familiar with assembly and integration of complex mechanical and fluid systems
  • Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience coding test scripts in C, C+, Python, or VBA
  • Experience completing complex test setups and executing test campaigns successfully.
  • Experience with data interpolation, regression, and analysis.

Applicants must be based in Pittsburgh, PA or willing to relocate.
